Material Sufficiency

A campaign to REFUSERETHINKREDUCEREUSEREPAIRREFURBISHREMANUFACTUREREPURPOSERECYCLEROT

The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) encourages all Europeans (and not only) to perform awareness-raising actions about waste reduction and sustainable resource management during a single week in November.

WHY we need to prevent waste

this is the size of the problem:

The EU generates
almost 5 tonnes of waste
per person per year (2022)

The EU extracts 14.8 tonnes
of material from nature
per person per year (2022)

The average EU resident generates
517 kg of municipal waste
per year (2024)

Only 11.8% of the materials
used in EU come
from recycled materials

so, what can I do?

Learning to reduce waste starts young! ♻️

That’s why one of the actions in the 𝗘𝗪𝗪𝗥 𝘅 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘁 competition: “𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲!” is all about bringing waste reduction into the classroom! 🏫

📚 We’ve created a 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁: an educational tool to help students explore waste reduction, material sufficiency, and creative reuse in a fun and engaging way.

🏆 Join the competition and take action for a more sustainable future! https://ewwr.eu/share-your-things-reduce-waste/

🏺 Do you have things at home or at school that you haven’t used in a long time? Dust them off and take part in the 𝗘𝗪𝗪𝗥 𝘅 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘁 competition: “Share your things, reduce waste!”

✨ Our suggested action is the 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀!

Families and schools can share stories and create an exhibition of old toys and other forgotten objects, encouraging children to exchange them or give them a new home. 🪁

We’ll provide a museum placard to help you bring your exhibition to life! 📸 Share photos of your Museum of Forgotten Things using #EWWR #TheCatInTheHat and inspire others to give forgotten objects a second life.

🏆 Join the competition for a chance to win one of our prizes! https://ewwr.eu/share-your-things-reduce-waste/
