Working together for a more sustainable Europe!

We are always glad to read about other projects that address the 3Rs: Reduce waste, Reuse products, Recycle materials! Promoting the use of sustainable resources and encouraging better waste management must become a common goal for all of us, both as organisations and as individual citizens. Therefore, here we present some other interesting EU projects that are working with us towards a more sustainable environment:

REFRESH is a new EU research project taking action against food waste. 26 partners from 12 European countries and China work towards the project’s goal to contribute towards the objectives of reducing food waste across Europe by 30% by 2025, reducing waste management costs, and maximizing the value from un-avoidable food waste and packaging materials. REFRESH focuses on the reduction of avoidable waste and improved valorisation of food re-sources. REFRESH runs from July 2015 until June 2019. Within that time REFRESH will conduct and support action against food waste at different events EU wide and within the four pilot countries Spain, Germany, Hungary and the Netherlands. If you want to know more about this project, follow this link, and if you are looking for ideas on how to reduce food waste, you will definitely find some inspiration from our last year’s focus “Stop Food Waste“and our case studies on this topic.

The application of Life Cycle Approaches – including Life Cycle Assessment, ecodesign and environmental labelling – is becoming an increasing reality for business, and a growing challenge in many economic sectors. To significantly address this challenge, the Life Cycle in Practice (LCiP) project was conceived, aiming to promote the uptake of LC approaches particularly in SMEs. The LCiP project helps SMEs in France, Belgium, Portugal and Spain reduce the environmental impacts of their products and services across the entire Life Cycle in three sectors: Buildings & Construction, Waste Management and Energy Equipment. If you want to know more about this project, follow this link. The EWWR also has interesting tools to help SMEs in reducing their environmental impact!

The 3xEnvironment project consists of three campaigns integrating the SMEs sector and their surroundings in an effort to protect the environment. Its primary goal is to support the entrepreneurs in the implementation of some changes to make their enterprises pro-ecological. This will be possible due to reducing use of energy, water, paper supplies as well as raw materials. They are encouraged to save money, while protecting the environment. This project also aims to increase SMEs employees’ awareness in the topics of ecology and the efficient use of resources. The project activities will focus on three campaigns: educational campaign, informational campaign and disseminating campaign. If you want to know more about this project, follow this link. If you are an SME, have a look here, the EWWR has developed targeted communication toolkits for you.

Let’s all work together for a more sustainable Europe!
