The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) is an initiative aiming to promote the implementation of awareness-raising actions about sustainable resource and waste management during a single week.
It encourages a wide range of audiences (public authorities, private companies, civil society as well as citizens themselves) to get involved.
The next edition will take place between 18 and 26 November 2017! See how you can take part here.
The 2016 edition of the EWWR took place between the 19th and the 27th of November 2016. Find out what actions took place in your area by exploring our database!
Thematic Focus 2017
Reuse and repair: Give it a new life!
The Thematic Focus for 2017 will focus on one of the easiest but very important ways to prevent waste: reuse with a twist of repair! Behind this topic is the need to shift from a throw-away attitude towards more appreciation for products and the resources used. This year the EWWR will open your eyes about how easy it is to find value in something you thought had become useless.
To highlight this topic and to support EWWR Action Developers to implement actions addressing it, a number of tools will soon be available.
Stay tuned and remember that what feels like an end is very often a new beginning!

We have developed a motivational online tool that encourages citizens all around the world to adopt specific behaviours towards sustainable resource management. By commiting yourself through www.ewwrcommitment.eu, you too can contribute to reducing the amount of waste that is overwhelming for our environment.
The principle is simple: you can choose from 14 good habits, for example composting or avoiding overpackaged products, and pledge that you will adhere to this attitude.
This simple action permits engagement from citizens also outside Europe and beyond the time frame of EWWR.
The aim is to reach as many citizens as possible to raise awareness about the easy steps that can be made to reduce the waste we produce.
3Rs and a clean-up
The actions implemented in the EWWR are addressing the “3Rs”: Reduce waste, Reuse products, Recycle material. The “3Rs” represent the options which should be considered first when elaborating a waste management strategy.
