The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) encourages all Europeans and not only to carry out awareness-raising actions about sustainable resource and waste management during a single week in November.

Our participants are very diverse. Public authorities from cities, municipalities, regions, and waste management companies; private companies; civil society organisations; schools and universities; as well as citizens themselves are welcome to take part in the EWWR.

This year’s edition will take place from 21 to 29 November 2020.

Registrations will open in late summer 2020. Follow us on social media to receive our updates!

EWWR Awards

Every year, the EWWR awards the most outstanding actions during an Awards Ceremony. The actions are shortlisted and evaluated by a jury made of 6 experienced practitioners in the field of waste prevention.

This year, the Awards Ceremony took place online on 25 June. Discover the winners in the press release.

EWWR 2020 to focus on invisible waste

EWWR 2020 to focus on invisible waste

Did you know that to manufacture a smartphone weighing less than 200 grams and coming in a small package, an unbelievable 86 kilograms of waste are produced? “Invisible waste” refers to the large amount of waste generated during the manufacturing process of products. We need to make this waste visible in order to be aware of our footprint and make informed decisions about the way we consume.

Do you dare to be aware?

Discover what you can do about invisible waste on the designated page on the EWWR website.

You can also explore the themes of our previous editions here.

3Rs and a clean-up

3Rs and a clean-up

The actions carried out during the EWWR address the “3Rs”: Reduce waste, Reuse products, Recycle material.
The “3Rs” represent the options which should be considered first when elaborating a waste management strategy or when seeking to reduce your waste.
