The European Week for Waste Reduction rewards the best actions implemented in 2015
The seventh edition of the EWWR was held from 21 to 29 November 2015 and more than 12,000 actions were implemented in Europe and beyond. In May, the time came to reward those who stood out in the name of waste prevention and reduction!
This year’s EWWR Awards Ceremony was held in Brussels on 11 May 2016. Here our honoured Jury handed out the awards to the six most outstanding awareness-raising actions of EWWR 2015 from the already known categories of Action Developers: Administration/Public Authority, Association/NGO, Business/Industry, Educational Establishment, Citizens, and Others.
It was an extraordinary event! To see the winners read our comprehensive Press File.
Let's Clean Up Europe 2016
This year Let’s Clean Up Europe took place on 6-8 May 2016. It is one of the biggest campaigns against littering with the aim of cleaning up our environment but also raising awareness on the problem. With more than 5,800 clean-up actions in 21 countries all over Europe and beyond, the third edition of Let’s Clean Up Europe (LCUE) was again a big success!
Clean-ups are needed because every year millions of tonnes of litter end up in the environment. In 2016, thanks to LCUE 6,000 tonnes of waste were collected with the help of almost 500,000 participants!
No waste is always the best waste!
Prevention Thematic Days 2016 - Packaging Waste Reduction: Use-less packaging!
The 8th edition of the EWWR will take place from 19 to 27 of November 2016. We are glad to announce the theme of this year’s PreventionThematic Days: Packaging waste reduction: Use-less packaging!”
Packaging waste is a critical issue. Why? Because there is too much packaging! On one side it makes our life easier but on the other side it puts a lot of pressure on our environment as it increases our resource consumption and production of waste. To inspire and help EWWR Action Developers in implementing actions related to Packaging Waste, the EWWR Secretariat has developed a number of tools and factsheets.
Let’s all work together and Use less packaging!
Working together for a more sustainable Europe
We are always glad to read about other projects that address sustainability and the 3Rs: Reduce waste, Reuse products, Recycle materials! Promoting the use of sustainable resources must become a common goal for all of us, both as organisations and as individual citizens. Therefore, here we present some other interesting EU projects that are working with us towards a more sustainable environment:
The Best LIFE Project Awards 2016
This year’s LIFE Best Projects Awards took place on 31 May 2016 during EU Green Week, which is one of the greatest events where environmental policies are discussed, so it made perfect sense to award the most outstanding LIFE projects during this occasion.
A total of 51 finalists were given the “Best LIFE Project” title for the year 2015 in the categories Nature, Environment and Information & Communication within the same strands. Among the finalists there were many projects from the waste world demonstrating that this sector has so much more to offer in terms of innovation.
