Let's Clean Up Europe 2016
This year Let’s Clean Up Europe (LCUE) took place on 6-8 May 2016. It is one of the biggest campaigns against littering with the aim of cleaning up our environment but also raising awareness on this issue. With more than 5,800 clean-up actions in 21 countries all over Europe and beyond, the third edition of LCUE was again a big success.
Clean-ups are needed because every year millions of tonnes of litter end up in the environment. In 2016, thanks to LCUE 6,000 tonnes of waste were collected! Participants of all kinds were involved, from public authorities to businesses, to associations and educational establishments, to of course groups of citizens. Everyone learned about the importance of waste reduction and especially prevention. Clean-up actions would not be needed in the first place if litter was prevented or reduced! No waste is always the best waste!
Thanks to the great work of the coordinators of this campaign, which pushed for actions in many countries around Europe and beyond, we reached the remarkable number of almost 500,000 participants.
