The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) encourages all Europeans (and not only) to perform awareness-raising actions about waste reduction and sustainable resource management during a single week in November.

WHY we need to prevent waste

this is the size of the problem:

The EU generates
almost 5 tonnes of waste
per person per year (2022)

The EU extracts 14.8 tonnes
of material from nature
per person per year (2022)

The average EU resident generates
517 kg of municipal waste
per year (2024)

Only 11.8% of the materials
used in EU come
from recycled materials

After a lot of work behind the scenes, we’re happy to unveil the new European Week for Waste Reduction website ♻️ 🎉

Together with EWWR coordinators, we have worked to make the website as clear, accessible and easy to navigate as possible, helping visitors find ideas, resources and examples to inspire their own waste reduction actions. A new, easy and straightforward registration procedure is just part of the changes we integrated!
